The police have taken 10 suspects into custody in the Pimla murder case and out of whom five have been targeted for further investigation.
This was disclosed Friday by , commissioner of police (CP), Dimapur K Sophie who also informed that police were awaiting a few more reports before filing the final charge sheet. He chose not to give a timeframe as some of these reports from outside were awaited. He clarified that there was no intentional delay from police .
He informed that the post-mortem report confirmed the death as homicidal in nature but also did not rule out possibility of sexual assault. He said nothing definitive could be said till the final reports were received on whether or not there was sexual assault. On self-admittance by suspects, Sophie said such admissions did not hold legal weight, as false confessions were somehow common in order to make the real accused escape.
On the arrest of a fake doctor, Sophie said Dimapur Police arrested one person for impersonating as a doctor and treating patients without requisite qualifications.
He revealed that the arrest was based on a complaint from the Nagaland Medical Council (NMC) against one Albert P Lotha, a resident of NST Colony here.
He said preliminary investigation proved that Lotha was practising medicine in New Market without holding any valid registration under the Medical Council Act, 2014.
Investigations revealed that Lotha had taken admission into Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences, Bangalore in 2008, but did not complete even one year. But, despite this, Lotha had been falsely claiming to hold an MBBS degree since 2014.
The CP urged the public to come forward if they had ever received treatment or medical prescriptions from Lotha. “Any documents, prescriptions or information would greatly help the ongoing investigation. Please contact the East Police Station,” he appealed.
He said the medical hall where Lotha practised was owned by his father, and further investigation was underway.
Regarding the drug haul in Khermahal here the previous week, Sophie said three individuals were initially arrested, while the buyer, a lady, was arrested later and was now under custody.
He revealed that the police seized 25 soap cases containing around 280 grams of suspected Shanflower from the accused.
DLH condemns: Meanwhile, Dimapur Lotha Hoho (DLH) has strongly condemned Albert P. Lotha, for claiming to be a doctor without necessary requisite qualification and defaming the name of Lotha Naga tribe.
In a statement, DLH chairman Thüngchanthüng Murry and general secretary Y.R.L Patton said on verification, it was ascertained that Albert’s mother was a Lotha Naga married to one Bengali by the name Palas Dasgupta (Gnyanjoe Das Gupta), a resident of NST Colony Dimapur.
DLH has directed Albert P. Lotha to apologise to the Lothas through press media within 48 hours for defaming the name of Lotha Naga Tribe failing which appropriate action would be taken as per the Lotha customary law. The hoho further cautioned any Lotha lady marrying to non-Naga to desist from naming their children taking the name of the tribe.
