The Central Nagaland Tribes Council (CNTC) has fervently appealed to the Government of India to bring the long-delayed Naga political talks to a conclusive end, warning of growing public frustration and instability in the absence of a final agreement.
In a press statement, CNTC expressed deep concern that despite the signing of the Framework Agreement in 2015 with the NSCN (I-M) and the Agreed Position with the Working Committee of the NNPGs in 2017, a final settlement remains elusive. “The Naga political solution, a dream carried by generations, remains painfully out of reach,” the council stated.
CNTC urged the Centre to urgently formulate a final, inclusive, and lasting agreement by drawing from both the Framework Agreement and the Agreed Position, a common draft acceptable to all stakeholders.
It further stressed that the Centre must take the confidence of the State Government in this process to ensure that solution is not only comprehensive but also rooted in practical governance.
Highlighting growing concerns over youth unemployment, CNTC pointed out that there were no avenues to channel their potential.
“If this continues, they risk being drawn into factions and conflicts, threatening to plunge our society into chaos and instability,” it said, adding that history has often shown “when the capable are left idle, destruction is not far behind.”
CNTC, echoing the sentiments of concerned Naga intellectuals and citizens, warned that further delay in resolving the issue could have dangerous consequences.
Asserting that the “time for delay is over”, CNTC urged Government of India to take urgent, sincere, and decisive steps—in consultation with the state government– to finalize the Naga political solution before the situation worsens and hope is lost.
“The future of Nagaland depends on it,” CNTC cautioned.
