District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), Phek, in collaboration with the district administration, organised a sensitisation program on the POSH Act 2013 at the Deputy Commissioner’s office, Phek, on May 9, 2025.
According to DIPR report, delivering keynote address, DC Phek and Mission Shakti chairman, Rhosietho Nguori, expressed concern over sexual harassment in government offices. He urged district officers to set up Internal Complaints Committees (ICCs) at their respective offices without delay.
Mezivolu T. Therieh, District Session Judge and chairperson of DLSA, served as the resource person. She explained that sexual harassment violates Articles 14, 15, 19, and 21 of the Indian Constitution. Therieh detailed the POSH Act 2013, which aims to protect women from workplace harassment.
She also discussed the responsibilities of office heads, emphasizing the formation of ICCs in workplaces with more than ten employees. Additionally, she outlined the proper procedures for conducting enquiries based on harassment complaints.
DLSA Phek retainer lawyer, Vethothi Vero, who chaired the session, spoke about the history of the Vishaka case, which led to the POSH Act 2013, and also highlighted the Legal Services Authority Act 1987. The program was attended by heads of district offices, reinforcing the importance of workplace safety and accountability.
