Konyak Students’ Union Kohima (KSUK) has strongly condemned the alleged physical abuse of a 9-year-old minor boy from the Konyak community reportedly by an LDA-cum-Computer Operator under the 10th IR Battalion, Zadima, and attached to Police Engineering Project (PEP), PHQ.
In a statement, KSUK president N. Bangyon Naam and general secretary Pangom W. Kheman expressed shock and outrage at what it described as a “heinous” and “inhuman” act, calling it a grave violation of child rights as enshrined in the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act, 2015, and the Right to Life under Article 21 of the Indian Constitution.
The union said it was “completely shocked by the inhuman behaviour exhibited by Wapang L Imsong towards a minor, who is in an age when he needs more love, protection and care from parents and guardians.” It also claimed that the “pathetic condition of the child speaks volumes of how brutal and unacceptable such an act is.
KSUK emphasized the vulnerability of children and the need for a nurturing and supportive environment. The union said that such mentality holds no place in a civilized society and must be dealt with strictly under the law.
Calling on every right-thinking citizen to condemn the act, KSUK urged the public to remain vigilant and proactive in rescuing and protecting children in distress.
KSUK demanded that the competent authorities initiate the strictest legal action against the culprit without delay, adding that the “union shall not rest until justice is served.”
