‘A descriptive grammar of Konyak Language’ released

Konyak Literature Board (KLB) on Friday launched the book “A Descriptive Grammar of Konyak Language” at the Konyak Union Conference Hall, Mon.


The event marked a significant milestone in the documentation and preservation of the Konyak language. According to DIPR report, the launching ceremony was graced by Rajya Sabha MP S. Phangnon Konyak as guest of honour and was presided over by Rev. A. Peihwang Wangsa, Education and Literature Secretary of KBBB and KLB member. The event began with a prayer by Peter Fellowship Pastor Mon, followed by the official release of the book by Phangnon Konyak.


Chairman of KLB, S. Manlip Konyak, provided an overview of the book project, which began in 2017. He extended gratitude to various leaders and organizations, including former minister EE Pangteang Konyak, the Konyak Union, and community supporters, for their contributions. The book is available at the Literature Board Office for Rs.1000, while the Word Dividend Rule Booklet is priced at Rs.100.


Deputy Commissioner of Mon, Wennyei Konyak, congratulated KLB on its accomplishment and encouraged residents to purchase the book to promote and preserve the language.


Prof. Pangersenla Walling, one of the authors, expressed gratitude for the support received and announced that the Board’s next initiative would be the development of a Konyak dictionary. Fellow author and research scholar Nikay Besa emphasized the book’s role in preserving linguistic heritage and urged young people to take pride in their mother tongue.


Other speakers, including EE Pangteang Konyak and Phangnon Konyak, stressed the importance of strengthening the Konyak language at the university level and encouraging literacy efforts among younger generations.

The event concluded with a cultural folk song performance by the Hahmongchi Cultural Society (Women) and a benediction prayer, reinforcing the community’s commitment to language preservation and cultural pride.
