Monsoon preparedness meeting in Wokha.

As the monsoon season nears, authorities in Kiphire and Wokha have initiated measures to prevent potential disasters. Preparedness meetings were held in both districts, with Kiphire’s session chaired by Deputy Commissioner Temsuwati Longkumer on May 15.

Officials assessed emergency response strategies, machinery availability, and interdepartmental coordination, particularly with the Public Works Department (PWD) and Assam Rifles, to ensure swift action during emergencies.

To mitigate flooding risks, a mass social work initiative has been slated for May 24 in Kiphire town, focusing on clearing drainage systems and maintaining roads.

In Wokha, Deputy Commissioner Vineet Kumar led a similar discussion, addressing landslide prevention, healthcare readiness, and uninterrupted access to essential commodities.

Officials emphasized maintaining power infrastructure and ensuring steady supply chains amid extreme weather conditions. To strengthen infrastructure and bolster resilience ahead of heavy rains, a mass social work drive will be held on May 31 in Wokha. Authorities in both districts reaffirmed their commitment to safeguarding public safety and ensuring smooth operations during the rainy season.
