The All Commercial Vehicle Association (ACVA), Wokha District, celebrated its 11th Foundation Day at the Lotha Hoho Conference Hall, with Superintendent of Police (SP) Wokha, M. Rhovisie Nyuwi, as the special guest and Motor Vehicle Inspector Asaibe Guing as the special invitee.
Marking the occasion, ACVA reaffirmed its commitment to the “One government, one tax” principle, resolving that commercial vehicle owners found paying taxes to any NPGs would be held accountable.
The house also resolved to extend the tenure of office bearers from three to five years, and pledged strict action against intoxicated or reckless drivers, including denying bail for such offenses
In his address, SP Nyuwi praised the association’s role in maintaining peace and order, urging continued observance of foundation day events. He spoke on larger societal issues, calling for sincerity and responsibility in all professions and emphasized the need to follow traffic rules to tackle Wokha’s growing congestion.
He added that new traffic rules for Wokha are being studied in collaboration with the administration and will be introduced following detailed ground assessments. He urged all the commercial vehicles to follow regulations such as passenger limits and proper licensing and registration and appreciated them for their service rendered to the society.
MVI Asaibe Guing spoke on the legal responsibilities of commercial drivers. He highlighted the importance of holding a valid driving license, warning that those without one could face a fine of ₹5,000 and up to three months in jail. He also stated that learner’s licenses are issued to individuals aged 18 and above, while commercial drivers must be at least 20.
He also mentioned that international driving permits are valid for one year and must be reapplied for upon expiry. Driving unregistered vehicles carries fines of ₹2,000 to ₹10,000 and up to one year of imprisonment for repeat offences. He also informed attendees about the Good Samaritan scheme, which rewards individuals who assist accident victims with a ₹5,000 cash prize.
ACVA president, Renbi Ngullie expressed gratitude to the district administration and stakeholders, affirming ACVA’s non-profit, public-serving mission. Founding president Y. Bankathung Lotha reflected on the association’s early struggles and urged members to uphold its founding values.
The event also featured a car rally with all registered ACVA vehicles and concluded with the election of new office bearers, including Yanithung Lotha as President and Libenthung Ovung as General Secretary.
ACVA has also appealed to the government for immediate intervention to repair the collapsed culvert at Zuvodong Colony, emphasizing the urgent need to make the route at least accessible for light vehicles.
The road, which connects Wokha Town, the District Civil Hospital, and several educational institutions, has become completely impassable. ACVA noted that the deteriorated condition poses a significant risk to daily commuters and has severely hampered emergency medical services.
