‘Signature campaign’ for Gorkhaland

Demand for a separate state of Gorkhaland by the Gorkhas reached Mokokchung Sunday with three young activists Bishal Rai and his two comrades, Gaynendra Aryal and Pravashkar Mainali who conducted their ‘Signature campaign’ in Mokokchung.
The Gorkhas have been demanding for separate state under the framework of the Indian Constitution, under clause 3(A). Under the leadership of the Gorkha Jana Mukti Morcha (GJMM), led by Bimal Gurung, the GJMM has been conducting a nation-wide signature campaign since June 2008 to strengthen their demand.
The three Gorkhas youths said the objective of the campaign was to make people aware of their demand for a separate state, adding that they had all the necessary documents and historical proof to substantiate their birthright to a separate state while also stating that Gorkhas were never a part of West Bengal.
By visiting Mokokchung, Nagaland becomes the 15th state the three young campaigners have visited since their signature campaign started. It was also disclosed that the ‘demand’ signed during the signature campaign by the Gorkhas from across India will be submitted to the government of India.
