A high level border magistrate meeting was held at Haluating Forest Beat Office near Amguri in Assam bordering with Tuli Saturday.
The recent incident at Merapani was also highlighted during the meeting where DFO Sibsagar Ranjan Kr Das opined that the local populace which was a mixture of many communities may be a factor triggering lack of mutual understanding and respect but was hopeful that BPCC (A-N) will strive to win the confidence of the entire belt and establish peace.
President of the BPCC (A-N) B.P. Bora emphasized the need for having frequent interaction amongst the people living in the border areas of both states in the way of activities like sports, cultural programs, seminars etc.
He opined that establishing of sports and cultural schools one in Assam in the name of late Dr. Tali Ao by Nagaland government and another in Nagaland in the name of Arjun medal awardee Bhogeswari Barua by Assam government in reciprocal process will go a long way in harmonising the people.
BPCC (A-N) Coordinator Er Temsu Wathi Ao also highlighted the present scenario of the Merapani stating certain print and electronic media from Assam were mis-reporting on the situation. He appealed to them to verify any such incidents before sending to the press and urged upon all right thinking citizens to exercise calm and tackle the situation judiciously.
On inquiry by Moa Sangtam, SDO(C) & BM Tuli on the status of evicting the illegal encroachers from Assam side in Geleki area (DAB) to his counterpart, DFO told the house that the process of survey work was going on towards the northern boundary with reference to Phisingpani of Geleki reserve forest area but added that owing to inclement weather, the work was being hampered.
The DFO further said it may take some more time since the whole exercise needed cooperation from the district authorities from both Mokokchung and Longleng districts since these area shares boundaries with the above two districts.
He also appealed to extend meaningful cooperation from the Naga villages situated in these areas for effective completion of the same.
SDO(C) Nazira P.K. Das encouraged the Border Peace Coordination Committee (A-N) for their tireless selfless efforts for steering for peace with the theme “Love thy neighbour”. He advised the committee to expand the working area to the entire Assam-Nagaland border belt. He further commented that the problems of the border areas are not the same.
The next Border magistrate level meeting has been fixed on September 26, at Tuli. Further, a one day volley ball league match and cultural evening is planned between the people of Assam-Nagaland at Tuli in the next couple of months as a peace bonding exercise.
The meeting was attended by the Richand Ahmed, BM of Nazira and Moa Sangtam, SDO (C) cum BM of Tuli, P.K. Das, SDO(C) of Nazira, Ranjan Kumar Das, DFO of Sivasagar district, Border Peace Coordination Committee (Assam-Nagaland) led by its President B.P. Bora, Vice President Imsu Jamir, BPCC (A-N) Coordinator Er Temsu Wathi Ao, executives from both Assam & Nagaland sides besides officials.
The meeting was chaired by Richand Ahmed, Border Magistrate of Nazira reviewed the BM level meeting minutes held at Anakiyimsen on June 10, 2011.
