In a major development, the culmination of a series of meetings at Niathu Resort, between six top leaders of three Naga groups- Isak Chishi Swu and Th. Muivah (NSCN/GPRN); ‘Gen’ Khole Konyak and N. Kitovi Zhimomi (GPRN/NSCN) and ‘Brig’ (rtd) S. Singnya and Zhopra Vero (NNC/FGN)- resolved “in principle” to work towards the formation of one ‘Naga National Government”.
According to a joint declaration signed by all the six leaders titled “ Naga Concordant”, a High Level Commission (HLC) with the six as members has been formed to ensure the realization of the proposed ‘Naga National Government’. The HLC would be headed by either the chairman/president or general secretary/vice president with four other “competent members” in the ranks of kilonser/major general and above “as deemed fit by the respective governments.”
To expedite the process, the HLC would hold meetings without delay in presence of FNR as “facilitators”.
It may be recalled that the six leaders of their respective group, held their first meeting on August 20 wherein they resolved to forgive one another and to “work towards a shared Naga future on the foundation of our historical and political rights.
On August 22, the six leaders met again wherein it was “agreed to strengthen and broaden the peace process based on the uniqueness of Naga history- our historical and political rights”.
According to a joint statement signed by Isak Chishi Swu (chairman) and Th. Muivah (general secretary) NSCN/GPRN; ‘Gen’Khole Konyak (president) and N. Kitovi Zhimomi (general secretary) GPRN/NSCN and ‘Brig’ S. Singnya (president) and Zhopra Vero (vice president)NNC/FGN, as a step towards actualization of the resolutions of August 20 and 22 the subsequent August 24 and 25 meetings accorded the following points:
Reconciled: on the basis of the historical and political rights of the Nagas.
Acknowledge: that we have hurt one another and that in the spirit of love we have forgiven each other; and are prepared to understand each other towards a shared future.
Reaffirm: the resolve not to harbor any non-Naga organizations adverse to the Naga political cause as discussed in Chiang Mai II and IV, and subsequently signed on January 15, 2010 in Dimapur, Nagaland. Furthermore, serious note is taken on the harboring of non-Naga organizations opposed to the Naga political cause and hence, strongly denounce such acts.
Disengage: in and form all forms of actions and associations detrimental to the Historical and Political cause of the Nagas.
Affirm: to work for the territorial integrity of all Nagas.
Any Interim: arrangement of the political rights of the Nagas shall be outside of the purview of the Indian constitution per se.
State govt welcomes signing of ‘Naga Concordant’
Nagaland chief minister Neiphiu Rio and state government has welcomed the signing of the Naga Concordant, which was signed in Dimapur today. A statement released by chief minister’s secretariat said signing of the document was “historic” and deserved to be welcomed by all sections of Naga society, adding adherence to it would lead to unity, understanding and oneness of all Nagas.
It said the state government in its role as active facilitator welcomed and extended its supports to all efforts aimed at unity of Nagas as oneness of Nagas would pave the way for an “honorable political solution that will bring permanent peace.”
Prayer meeting: Earlier in the day, before an agreement was reached, the top leaders of three Naga groups, including representatives from respective groups and Naga civil and church bodies assembled at the Auditorium of Niathu Resort, for a prayer meeting.
Welcoming the delegates at prayer meeting, the FNR convenor Dr. Rev. Wati Aier said “historic decisions” they made was not an easy task, adding now that the groups have reconciled they were looking towards the future at the movement. He said on what basis should they unite was the “biggest issue”.
The FNR convenor also announced that participating groups, in the name of the historic meet, have affirmed to release all “political prisoners” and was making all the arrangements to expedite the process.
Meanwhile, delivering sermon at the prayer meeting on the topic “the power of love”, the oriental theological seminary (OTS) academic dean Rev. Dr Zelhou Keyho said “Nagas have been asking for forgiveness and now that they have forgiven each other, now it’s time to love each other.”
Emphasizing on the topic, Keyho said “to forgive is to love and to love is the fruit of forgiveness.”
Therefore, he said one should strive to show love to one another, and cited a passage from Apostle
Paul’s letter to Colossians (3:12-14).
Making a remark that truth may hurt, the Revered said: “but what has bind us should become our strength”, and called upon the leaders to seek the courage to love.
The Naga civil and church bodies that attended today’s prayers meeting included Naga Mothers’ Association, Naga council Dimapur, United Naga Council, Naga Women Hoho Dimapur, Council of Naga Baptist Churches, Catholic Association of Nagaland, Naga Hoho, NBCC peace affairs committee, Nagaland GB&DB federation, ENPO, Dimapur Baptist Pastors, NPMHR, NSF and Sumi Hoho.
