Ursuline Franciscan Congregation north east province turns 125

Sisters of Ursuline Franciscan Congregation (UFC), north east province turned 125 years and marked its post centenary silver anniversary on Thursday at Tabor-UFC Provincialate, Purana Bazar, Dimapur.

Bishop of Kohima Diocese,  Most Rev. Dr. Bishop James Thoppil graced the thanksgiving Eucharistic celebration, which was attended by over 30 priests, religious sisters, village leaders and Ursuline Franciscan Lay Associates and well wishers.

The Bishop in his sermon appreciated the good works done by Ursuline Franciscan sisters to the region and prayed for blessing upon them.

14 lay people coming from different states of northeast were inducted into Ursuline Franciscan Lay Association by Rev. Sr. Milly Fernandes, Provincial Superior.

Sr. Milly Fernandes in her welcome address said 125 years have gone by with indelible touch of His divine intervention at each significant bend of faith journey of the members of its congregation.

She said it was not the celebration of its glorious past but a joyful commemoration of how the Lord has led the congregation to the green pastures accompanying everyone at all moments both abundant and parched.

She expressed that its heroic founder, Fr. Urban stein, Mother Nympha Fernandez and pioneers of the Congregation, the past Superiors, formators and sisters who do not rest on the oars, but ventured into waters smooth or turbulent.

Sr. Milly also said their daring spirit and bold initiatives have brought the congregation to what it stood for today and thanked for their unflinching dedication in being able to contribute its best to the Church and society.

She also thanked all collaborators who have contributed to the spiritual and material growth of the congregation.

Later, the novices presented a play entitled “Heal the world” which depicted the present challenges of society and how Ursuline Franciscan sisters were a sign of hope for the new world.

It may be mentioned that Ursuline Franciscan sisters are serving in six states in 19 centres in north east India with its headquarter at Purana Bazar, Dimapur.
