Border areas resolve to maintain status quo

District administrations from Tuli sub-division, Mokokchung and Nazira sub-division, Sivsagar Tuesday have resolved to maintain status quo in order to instill peace and tranquility between the two neighbours.

The resolution arrived at the 11th border magistrate level meeting between Tuli sub-division in Mokokchung district and Nazira sub-division in Sivasagar district held at NPPC Ltd. guest house at Tzudikong town.

According to district informatics officer (NIC) DC office Mokokchung and coordinator, border peace coordination committee (Assam-Nagaland), Er. Temsu Wathi Ao Tuesday’s meeting assumed significance to border disturbances where eviction/destruction of plantations was reported from either sides of the border.

However, the administrators of both sides after thorough deliberation on the burning issues had resolved to maintain status quo, Temsu said.

In the resolution adopted, both sides have initiated to hold a friendly football match between the teams from either state at Nazira within this year.

It has also resolved to facilitate school children from border areas of either sides to visit each other states on educational tour on reciprocal basis to inculcate more brotherhood thus make them proactive in the process of “Love thy Neighbour”.

The meeting was chaired by SDO(C) and border magistrate Tuli and attended by Sehjang Doungel, ADC; Lemlila Sangtam, EAC; Bendang Jamir, ACF and host of officials from police and forest departments; Richand Ahmed, SDO(C) Sivasagar and border magistrate Nazira (Sector-F), Mousumi Barua SDO(C) Nazira and Asif Ahmed SDPO Nazira.

Members of border peace coordination committee (A-N) led by its president B. P. Bora, vice president Imsu Jamir along with coordinator and executive members from Jorhat/Mokokchung and Sivasagar/Nazira sectors also attended the meeting.
