NSACS ToT for youth leaders on HIV & AIDS

With the aim to empower the young people in the fight against HIV and AIDS, the two-day training for trainers (ToT) for the leaders of youth ministry was held at Dimapur Ao Baptist Arogo (DABA), Dimapur March 17 and 18, under the initiatives of the Nagaland AIDS Control Society (NSACS).
A team of resource persons from NSACS and others conducted the training in four groups with total participation of more than 240 youths.
Session on ‘expectations and concern’ was taken up in all the four groups by different resource persons with special emphasis on the role of the Church as a model in prevention and spreading awareness on HIV & AIDS.
They also highlighted on how the Church could reach out to the weaker sections of the society and thus act as facilitators on doing away with discrimination and taboos associated with HIV & AIDS.
Giving an overview on the updates of HIV & AIDS scenario in Nagaland, resource persons gave out information and statistics from their latest findings. It was revealed that Dimapur was called the “Capital of HIV & AIDS”, therefore, called upon the young people to understand and take the training very seriously.
The topics covered included youth drugs and alcohol by Dr. Rose, SPO NSACS; Understanding human sexuality-role of church in promoting human sexuality- Dr. Joyce Angami; role of youth in behavioral change- Renemla, project director, Sisterhood Network and music and youth-Akangjungla, sub-editor, The Morung Express. An open sms competition was also held where Imnanuchet, Sentimenla and Imnaodang were declared first, second and third winner respectively. Further, all the groups also presented very practical and fitting ‘action and plan’ which they committed to implement in work.
