As a pre-cursor to the career counselling program to be held at Hotel Acacia, Dimapur on June 18, Genius Career Guide, a unit of DIA Education Foundation, Dimapur held a press meet at Shemrock Academy, Army Supply road on Saturday.
Speaking to Nagaland Post, counsellor, Momena Das said that the objective of the counselling program will be to create awareness among students seeking a career direction, and even parents and educational institutions in Nagaland.
Momena said that Genius Career Guide intends to bring students directly in contact with colleges and do away with the concept of middlemen. She said its aim is to help students chalk out a career path and make well-informed decisions.
Talking about Nagaland in particular, she said that career decisions should ideally start being made as early as class 9. She emphasized on taking a student’s aptitude into consideration while deciding a course for them and that decisions should not be made on the basis of outside influence and pressure. She also pointed out the gap between students and parents in making career choices and the need for the gap to be plugged. The need to ask the right questions, both from the students and educators is also absolutely crucial, she added.
Momena also lamented that many students today don’t seem to be aware of the many centrally sponsored schemes published during the months of December and January. She added that Genius Career Guide is also doing its bit to help marginalized students get scholarships.
According to marketing manager, Sandip Saha, students can come and register themselves for the free career counselling program at Hotel Acacia, 3 p.m on Monday.
Apart from Momena Das and Sandip Saha, proprietor Subhankar Das was also present at the press meet.
