
Peenyiusha (Village Gate) of Bhumnganghongnyu Bhumnyu Village under Longleng district was inaugurated on November 3 by N. Metpong Phom, former minister, who was the special guest on the occasion. The gate was inaugurated in the presence of tribal and Church leaders and the public of the village.
Speaking on the occasion, Metpong Phom said erecting a permanent gate at the village was an achievement as it will be an identity of the village. He said every Naga village needs its own village gate to keep the valued Naga tradition, culture, and identity alive. He also said that indigenously built village gates in Naga society are required to keep the unique indigenous identity, culture, tradition and customs alive for the long run. Metpong also lauded the citizens of the village for developing the village and said it showed the cooperation, unity and team work among the villagers. He also called upon the villagers to shed malicious thoughts and work together for betterment of the village.
Earlier, the special guest also unveiled a monolith of the newly constructed village gate which was erected at the main entrance. M. Tongshau Phom, pastor Bhumnyu Baptist Church offered a dedicatory prayer.
Others who spoke on the occasion included, Chingen Phom, president Phom People’s Council, Y.B. Angam Phom ex-candidate, and Ongba Phom, Bhumnyu Village Council chairman.
The program was chaired by S. Angam Phom, president Bhumnyu Citizen Union, Bible reading and prayer by H. Menyu Phom, pastor Dungkhao Baptist Church. Special songs were presented by Dungkhao Students Union and Bhumnyu Baptist Youth Endeavour. C. Longten Phom, chairman construction committee, presented a construction report and a vote of thanks was delivered by Nampei Phom, head Gaon Bura Bhumnyu Village.
