Regional Transport Authority (RTA), Dimapur, its board meeting held on February 20, 2025, in the office chamber of the Deputy Commissioner’s, Dimapur, discussed key transport-related issues, including the restriction of heavy vehicle parking around Unity Gate and Patkai Bridge.
According to DIPR report, the meeting was chaired by Dr. Tinojongshi Chang, Deputy Commissioner of Dimapur, who is also the chairman of the RTA, and was attended by all board members and representatives.
At the meeting, the board deliberated on relocating taxi and ticket counters to the Inter-State Bus Terminal (ISBT) and formed a committee to study its implementation.Discussions on restrictions and alternate routes for manual rickshaws and Thela-walas, with the Dimapur Municipal Council (DMC) were discussed and Officer in Charge (Traffic) has been assigned to study the matter.
The board also addressed concerns about parking fees at Dimapur Railway Station, where both railway authorities and the DMC currently collect fees from taxis. It was decided that the DMC would engage in discussions with railway authorities to resolve the issue.
The RTA board also reviewed speed limits for different types of roads and decided to write to the state government for official implementation. Additionally, the possibility of establishing separate RTA Boards for Chumoukedima and Niuland was discussed, with a decision to submit a proposal to the state government.
A key topic of discussion was the issuance of two-wheeler taxi permits for Dimapur, Chumoukedima, and Niuland. The board finalized conditions for granting permits, issuing forms, and related procedures.
Plans to establish a prepaid taxi booth at Dimapur Airport were also deliberated. Further, the meeting discussed on the sub-committee report on auto-rickshaw fares and parking under the RTA jurisdictions of Dimapur, Chumoukedima, and Niuland.
