The Moatsu Festival 2025 cum Mini Hornbill, a collective celebration initiated by Ao legislators and the state government, kicked off at the Imkongmeren Sports Complex here on Thursday.
Speaking on the occasion, Nagaland Legislative Assembly (NLA) speaker Sharingain Longkumer said Moatsu was a time to ask for abundant blessings. He said that the Aos had been the pioneers for many years, be it in religion, education, sports, music, art, political leadership, etc, pointing out that because of this legacy, they were what they were today.
Stressing that it was also time to look back and focus where society was heading to, he urged all to introspect where they had left footsteps and where those footsteps were leading them today.
He remarked, “Faced with progress in this ever changing world, we tend to forget the things we have been blessed with. We have become victims of what we desire”. Hence, as part of the festival, he called for looking back how they had been blessed and where they were today so as to enable them to embrace the future.
Earlier, on the occasion, the welcome address was delivered by Deputy Commissioner Mokokchung Thsuvisie Phoji. A speech on the significance of Moatsu was delivered by Limanungsang Dobashi, while the Mokokchung District GB Association presented a folk song and members of Note Grid School of Music Mokokchung presented a special song.
Later in the day, an inter-ward tug of war competition was held, which was followed by indigenous games played between range students conference. The inter-ward folk song competition was the highlight of the evening session where adviser TN Mannen was present as an honoured guest.
