Monsoon preparedness in Noklak and Tseminyu

    DIMAPUR: With the monsoon approaching, District Disaster Management Authorities (DDMA) in Noklak and Tseminyu held meetings on May 20, 2025, to review preparedness and discuss strategies to handle potential disasters.


    Noklak DDMA: According to DIPR report, Noklak DDMA meeting was chaired by Deputy Commissioner, P. Mono Khiamniungan, to assess disaster response measures. Khiamniungan emphasized the need for coordination among various departments during emergencies and urged them to stay prepared. He requested departments such as Medical, PWD (R&B), Food & Civil Supplies, Power, PHED, Veterinary, Agriculture, Horticulture, and NST to submit reports on available stocks and preparedness plans.
    SDO (Civil) Noklak, Vikhoto Richa, outlined the District Disaster Management Plan (DDMP), highlighting its importance in disaster preparedness, mitigation, response, and recovery. Meanwhile, District Project Associate Tanghiu provided updates on the Village Disaster Management Authority (VDMA) and urged newly recognized villages to form VDMA teams promptly.
    The meeting also focused on awareness campaigns, particularly regarding flash floods and landslides, and formed a Drafting Committee to refine the District Disaster Management Plan. Members discussed road conditions, medicine supplies, essential commodities, and emergency response strategies for disasters.
    Tseminyu DPDB: In Tseminyu, the monsoon preparedness meeting was taken up at the District Planning & Development Board (DPDB) meeting was chaired by DPDB chairman Ar. Jwenga Seb, MLA. The session reviewed previous meeting minutes before discussing monsoon-related disaster preparedness.
    The Disaster Management department detailed various precautionary measures and assigned tasks to different agencies: DEF to develop a communication strategy for emergency responses; SDRF to maintain equipment readiness and remain alert for search and rescue operations, with assistance from Kohima Division; Food & Civil Supplies to ensure at least a one-month stock of essential goods; PWD (R&B) to repair roads, clear landslide debris, and identify alternate routes; Medical Department to stock medicines and deploy mobile units for remote areas; PHED to ensure clean drinking water availability; Power Department to implement contingency plans, including tree clearance near power lines; DPRO to coordinate with NSDMA for timely public awareness campaigns; Town Council to organize drainage maintenance and social work activities and DDMA to issue preparedness guidelines and advisories to the community.
    The meeting also discussed upgrading Government High School Tesophenyu and reviewed departmental activities. The Industry & Commerce department presented its initiatives, while PWD (R&B) was scheduled to present a report at the next meeting.

    Monsoon preparedness meeting convened
    A monsoon preparedness meeting under the chairmanship of the chief secretary and chairman SEC, NSDMA has been convened on May 21, at 2 PM in the chief secretary’s conference hall, Nagaland civil secretariat, Kohima. According to a DIPR report, the following departments have been requested to attend the meeting: Commissioner, Home Commissioner, Director General of Police, Commissioner & Secretary, Works & Housing, Nagaland, Commissioner & Secretary, Health & Family Welfare, Nagaland, Commissioner & Secretary, Food & Civil Supplies, Nagaland, Chief Engineer, NH (NPWD), Nagaland and Chief Engineer, R&B (NPWD), Nagaland. Meanwhile, all Deputy Commissioners and chairman DDMAs have been informed to join the meeting, along with their respective district heads of departments, through Video Conferencing.
