DIMAPUR: A team from the National Health Systems Resource Centre (NHSRC), led by executive director Maj. Gen. (Prof.) Atul Kotwal visited Khonoma and Rusoma villages on May 20, 2025, to review community-based health initiatives, including the Tobacco-Free Village program.
The delegation included NHSRC officials Dr. Ajay Kumar Arya, Dr. Devajit Bora, and Bhaswat Das, along with representatives from the Directorate of Health & Family Welfare (DoH&FW) Nagaland and District Health team.
At Khonoma, the team met with village council members, community leaders, women’s groups, ASHA workers, and Anganwadi Workers (AWWs).
Kotwal praised the strong community participation, recognizing it as a key factor in the success of health initiatives. The team also visited Khonoma Primary Health Centre (PHC) and interacted with medical staff.
The visit continued at the Health & Wellness Centre (HWC) in Rusoma, where the delegation engaged with village leaders, HWC staff, and ASHA workers. Kotwal commended the well-maintained facility, emphasizing that community involvement is essential for effective healthcare delivery.
The NHSRC team later held a meeting with senior state health officials at the directorate of Health & Family Welfare to discuss health system improvements and future strategies.
The State team was led by additional directors Dr. Vezokholu Theyo and Dr. Arenla Walling, along with joint director Dr. Alemwapang Aier and deputy directors Dr. Ruokuohelie Rutsa, Dr. Manyau Phom, and Dr. Kheshika Yepthomi. District officials, including CMO Kohima Dr. Leamnyei Konyak, also participated in the discussions.
